Smart phones have become a part of
modern life, and even affect people's travel experiences.
1. How travelers use their smart phone when
they traveling?
Technology products (especially smart
phones) on tourism are evolving. Today, tourism is no longer far away from the
hustle of daily work and activities. Just lightly brush on the phone, they can
also keep in touch with friends, family room and office workers although they
are traveling, it really difficult to switch off the smartphone.
We believe that traveling and daily
living environment has undergone through each other. When we using the new
technology and enjoy the benefits of new technology, in fact, travelers also
gain experience.
In order to understand the impact on
the daily life of the smartphone as well as tourism, research team and senior
US travelers conducted in-depth interviews.
Respondents must meet three conditions.
Their mobile phone is one of the three most popular operating systems, namely
iOS, Android or BlackBerry, and go out to travel at least three times in the
past year, of which at least once in the three months prior to the interview.
In addition, they have to use unlimited data services.
Respondents were asked to use the case
of daily smartphones, communications and information whether the amount of
change, the smart phone has affect their travel plans and experiences, as well
as the road functions and information services.
2. What change in travel experience by
smart phone?
We found that travelers use their smart
phone when they traveling and everyday in life situations are similar, or even
a "spillover effect." Respondents believe that the daily habits
frequent communication, using mobile phones in the journey could allows them to
fulfill social responsibility contact.
The results showed that in more
frequent contact, the phone will help respondents feel "more in touch with
family and friends", "safety" and "less diaphragm."
Use the phone for entertainment while traveling, they feel enjoyment and
arbitrary. Mobile phone deal with travel, navigation, flight registration and
other matters, to make them feel more convenient and efficient. Access and
search data by mobile phone also help travelers to reschedule and arrangement
the trip more flexible.
3. What are the implications to tourism
practitioners by these findings?
The study found that the use of smart
phones has great potential to change the travel experience. Indeed, the smart
phone users in different uses and perceptions of daily life related phone
features, thereby affecting how the traveling public communication, information
and the use of time.
The tourism industry should pay more
attention to nowadays passengers are associated with different occasions, the
environment, information and communication channels. Since the flow of services
become more important and influential, tourism marketers must understand the
tools and channels of smartphone by visitors everyday use in life environment.
