RFID: The new IT revolution in events registration process?

When registering for a large event such as a sport event or a congress, the management of attendees’ flow is critical. A long queue to enter an event can create a bad experience for attendees and it can reveal a bad organization from the event manager. Most of the time the registration process is based upon barcode badges: each attendee needs to queue to scan the barcode to be able to have access to the event. It can be long and create traffic at the entrance of large events but this system is affordable and that is why it is the most common system so far. However, 2015 is the year of the revolution in terms of registration process and RFID badging could be an innovative solution for your next event.

What is RFID?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. It enables to transmit the identity and information of a person or an object directly to a computer system. The main benefit is that it is wireless and contactless. Hence, attendees don’t need to look for their badge or ticket, nor print them. As long as they have an RFID wristband or pass on them they can have direct access to the event without even stopping by a ticket checking staff. It also enables event organizers to track attendees in the event and to know where they are and how long they stay there. Not only can RFID be used as an assessment tool, but this system meets also with two main attendees’ needs: cashless payments and connectivity.

RFID: the rise of the cashless payment
New innovations regarding RFID concurs with the increasing demand of cashless payment. And it is very good news for RFID manufacturing companies such as Intellitix (www.intellitix.com). Not only does the RFID badge system enable to track attendees but it is also a cashless payment support. Through their RFID badges, attendees can buy without contact their ticket for the event and they can also pay for extra services or products during the event. The payment is quicker but also safer than with traditional payment systems. This process offers event organizers the opportunity to better control revenues of the event as its provides a real time control.
We will probably hear a lot more about cashless payment through RFID in events within the next years as it is already a great success: more than four million cashless transactions have been made since Intellitix launched this service in 2013.

RFID: an answer for the increasing demand of connectivity
Being constantly connected is now a requirement and events are not an exception. RFID system provides an innovative solution to this request. Thanks to the tracking system of RFID, event organizers are able to post on social media the exact location of a sponsor or a keynote speaker during the event. In addition, as RFID badges can be linked to attendees’ Facebook or twitter accounts, they can like or follow a sponsor or an exhibitor only by using a check-in point and all the pictures where they appear can be uploaded directly to their profile. Thus, RFID is a solution to make your event more interactive and to gain visibility online but it is also an additional comfort for attendees as they can receive an alert as soon as one of their friends or colleagues or someone they really wanted to meet arrive at the event.

To conclude, if you want to organize a high end event, don’t hesitate to switch to RFID: its added value is huge both for event organizers, sponsors, exhibitors and attendees.
