Nordic Choice Hotels has recently integrated an OpenWays technology solution, allowing guests the capability to skip the hassle of a front desk check-in and open their hotel room with Mobile Key DUAL. Nordic Choice is implementing a “Smooth Service” initiative for mobile-savvy travelers. The Scandinavian brand teamed up with OpenWays, the first technology company to launch front desk bypass and mobile key solutions.
The first major appeal is the capability for guests to check-in and check-out of the hotel via mobile device. Room key-dispensing kiosks are another efficient alternative to front desk check-in. Of course, the traditional keys are always available upon request.
The second great feature is “Smooth Access”. Upon a traveler’s arrival at the hotel, their room can be instantly available and unlocked via mobile device. Just wave the phone at the lock!
Thanks to Near Field Communication (NFC), Smooth Access is available through all mobile providers and with all phones, even non-Smartphones! Users simply enroll online. It is on the check-in date that the guest actually receives their room information via text or e-mail. A Crypto Acoustic Credential (CAC) provides the particular tone required to unlock the room. OpenWays boasts Mobile Key DUAL’s virtually unlimited capacity. They assure its function and security as well as its user- and eco-friendly features.
A 2010 pilot program was conducted at the Clarion Hotel Stockholm. But it was Oslo, Norway’s Comfort Hotel Xpress that was the first Nordic property to implement the program. Mobile key will gradually spread throughout the rest of the brand.
