Is it time for Google glass to make its entry into the
hospitality Industry?
The emergence of wearable headset in the 60’s gave birth to
the development of wearable devices we see today. Google one of today’s innovative
companies has created a wearable technology that has been received with mixed
opinions.
The Starwood brand is one of the companies in the industry
that is not afraid to experiment with new technology. We saw this earlier this
year when the brand announced plans to introduce e-room keys via smartphones.
In
an effort to be a pioneer in the industry leader in wearable technology,
Starwood has unveiled details on its SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) app for
Google glass. Through the use of the app, Google glass owners will be able to
search for the brands 1,100 hotels and resorts around the world using voice
commands, book their rooms and get real time, GPS-enabled directions.
Furthermore, guests will be able to take virtual tours of
the brands different hotels, look up information and handle bookings and
reservations.
While this could potentially be a great milestone for the
industry, certain factors have to be bearded in mind: How have people embracing
wearable technology? Is it too early to develop an app? Only time will tell!
