The Canadian company EventMobi has developed a game-based smartphone platform, which it claims will “inject entertainment and healthy competition into the events”.
Tapping into the ever-growing trend of gamification, which implements game strategies to increase audience engagement, GamifyApp is designed exclusively for meetings and events professionals. This gamification app allows planners and organisers to build and customise games to enhance the overall attendee experience and, according to EventMobi, to solve the common problems they are typically faced with, such as engaging attendees at educational sessions or compelling attendees to walk the tradeshow floor and interact with sponsors.
EventMobi claims GamifyApp integrates “game mechanics into all aspects of the event experience – education, team-building, as well as networking – by encouraging attendees to use their smartphone or tablet device to complete quizzes, solve challenges and perform tasks”.
Event attendees can also use their device to check into a location by typing a pass code or scanning a QR code from a plaque or poster. In typical gamification fashion, when actions are performed, attendees are rewarded with points and virtual badges, which they can use to redeem prizes at the event. They can also see their progress and ranking on the app’s leader board.
“In this technology obsessed culture, where a smartphone is essentially an extension of one’s hand, the GamifyApp is the key to engaging event-goers,” said EventMob president Bob Vaez. “Asking people to put down their phone is futile. Instead, we’ve designed a game with the phone or tablet device at the centre. And there’s nothing like a good competition to get people engaged.”
Big brands and associations like Disney, Crocs and HIMSS have already jumped on board, using GamifyApp to enhance the event experience for their attendees. Supporters of the app have also praised the use of technology to cut down on paper waste and reduce printing cost for conference organizers.
Currently priced individually at US$2,500, it could well be beyond the budget for those organising smaller events, GamifyApp can also be combined with EventMobi’s Mobile Event packages, which range from US$799 to US$4,999. Of course, its price can put off conference organizers, but this new app may herald a new future in the way conferences are run and this could be a taste of the future.

To increase audience engagement, the Canadian company EventMobi designed a game-based smartphone platform, GamifyApp, in order to allow event planners and organizers to enhance attendee experience at educational session. This GamifyApp is also connected to other mobil Apps such as QR code, and be environmentally friendly. Some big companies has already apply this App to events but the price is too high and need to be cut down.
