The hospitality industry is the witness of a fundamental change in its services. Indeed, with the trend of sustainable development that spread around the world over the last decade, hotels have to adapt and follow those dynamics. In line with this movement, the 5-star Sama Hotel Kuala Lumpur International Airport implemented in all of its guestrooms fully automatic minibar upon its recent renovation.

Bartech’s automatic minibars
In the field of minibar design and technology for the global hospitality industry, Bartech is recognized as a pioneer and a leader. This is therefore all naturally that they recently came out with a brand new model of minibar: the Neobar. This new generation of guestroom features falls directly within the industry trends, lead by cost savings and green initiatives. Bartech has developed a new technology to help the hospitality industry in their “eco-friendly” initiatives, while boosting guestroom revenues.

What’s new?
The Neobar is currently the most environmentally friendly automatic minibar on the market. But what really is an “Eco-friendly Minibar”? As part of its options, the Neobar includes the Computerized Energy Saving System (CESS) which enables hotels to reduce their energy consumption up to 30% by monitoring and adjusting the cooling production according to guestroom status (vacant, occupied or out of order), hotel occupancy, and other criteria.
In addition, this incredibly quiet minibar (only 24 decibels) utilizes an advanced compressor cooling unit, which means that once the temperature targeted has been reached, the unit can provides about 12 hours of cooling without consuming additional energy. This technology empowers the Neobar to consume 70% less energy than typical absorption minibars.

A solution for the hospitality industry?
Hotels and resorts rely on their image, especially luxurious hotels. Nowadays, no one can take the liberty to ignore the importance of sustainable development measures. But who said that eco-initiatives have to rhyme with additional costs? Indeed, hotels can now protect the environment and the future generations while being profitable! This new generation of automatic minibar enables the hospitality field to reduce their expenditures while creating additional revenue. Apart from a reduction in the energy consumption, the Neobar also enable hotels to reduce by 75% its number of minibar attendant on staff, which can be reassigned to other guest service.

A new challenge?
Through the Neobar and its range of automatic minibar, Bartech helps hotels to reduce their costs while creating additional revenue and pursuing a sustainable development strategy. As consumers, we think that the image a company is conveying about itself is really important, and must be consistent. Indeed, many companies are trying to make themselves as “green organisation”, but only few of them really display their measures and show evidences of their strategy and actions. Implementing sustainable measures in numerous and various aspects of the travelers’ stay, such as minibar which can appear insignificant in a guestroom, shows the involvement of an hotel, and reinforce its image. This has been proven by a study conducted by Travelocity which revealed that “travelers prefer hotels with eco-friendly initiatives over their counterparts” reported recently Hospitalitynet. Indeed, the Neobar do not only contribute to a sustainable development, but also influence guestroom ambiance and guest satisfaction. In addition, in line with those results, such technologies can, in some extent, lead to a greater  involvement into “Green trends” from the visitors and therefore, make them aware of ecological issues.

However, in a world where technology prevails, a risk persists for the job industry due to the use of always more technologies. Indeed, those new automatic minibars  are reducing by 75% the number of minibar attendant on staff. Those can be reassigned on others services, but might also see their number of work hours trimmed, which represent a significant saving in labor costs for hotels. As a result, the constant development of technologies definitely influences the way services are nowadays performed and provided, with more or less good outcome. Upon these new practices, what the hospitality industry will look like in ten years from now?
