New Gala for the Chinese Spring Festival Creates New Stage for the Global Netizen

‘The 2012 Internet Spring Festival Gala’ which started on the last day of the Year of Rabbit and ended on the 30th of January, the 8th of the Dragon Year, lasts for 9 days. It’s the first year for the CCTV to hold such gala on the Internet. This lunar year, this event takes “Micro Life, Cloud Happiness” as its slogan. Micro life indicates the netizen (net citizen) who use the micro-blog in their lifetime; the cloud happiness stands for the cloud server being day-to-day popular this year. The gala gathers the excellent shows from netizens all over the world.

The main theme of the net gala is "Share your stories, fight for success." Nine true stories have been chosen from events throughout out the year and these touching stories and genuine feelings will inspire the new hope for the coming year.

The net gala includes three evening parties, the themes are “online reunion”, “hold happiness” and “upload dreams”, respectively. With the main idea of reunion, happiness and dream, the gala Built the proper atmosphere of all Chinese, head home to celebrate the Chinese New Year! The Internet Spring Festival Gala continues the characteristics of globalization, non-distance, non-threshold. Since the last October, the event holders had launched the program collection in the university students and the normal citizens. Also the event committee had set the trials named “Chinese Heart, Travelers’ song” which is faced to the oversea Chinese and international friends.

To show the charm of the “micro life” in this net generation, the gala use the micro-blog wall, Weixin (an app on smart phones, similar to ‘whatsapp’), network roll call, etc. to interact between the netizens and the host, as well as the superstars. Moreover, the use of 3D technology gives the audiences another kind of feast for both eyes and ears.

In our opinions, this Internet Spring Festival Gala is a successful attempt for the CCTV (China Central Television) to hold such event on the Internet. It’s quite close to the general public to let the audience participate in the evening party. Besides, it could give the oversea Chinese like us a strong sense of festivity. Since China has stepped into the times with five hundred million netizens, the action of holding gala on the Internet meets the current situation. It’s also a form for the public to get benefits. For the first time to handle such event, there still have been some shortages. However, we believe it could be better the next year, and give the Chinese throughout the world a new way to experience the Chinese New Year!
