Companies getting results from cloud computing.

In the hospitality industry or in the entrepreneurship and medical fields, some groups decided to move up their core services and systems online. They invested in the cloud more for practical and economic motives than for financial reasons. Indeed, such innovative tool enables them to improve the way of management, CRM and taxation systems in their businesses. The cloud computing not only appears as a technology with high potential but showed its short- and long term results for companies from various sectors.
While startups such as ServiceMax and NVoicePay developed their businesses’ growth plans thanks to the cloud infrastructure, other groups used mutiple advantages that suit to their needs.
RehabCare Group - providing therapeutic services - focuses on software and on a device from the cloud to increase the effectiveness of the employees.
Last but not least, InterContinental Hotels Group switches from server-based enterprise software to the cloud, using three cloud delivery methods. Each one proved to be effective, flexible and customer-oriented. What is at stake for the group remains the capability for the users to control and understand every aspects of the tool, so that it can be a reliable and an effective interface.

We find relevant to focus on InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), since this company has considerably moved its activities online. Since a few years, IHG has embraced the use of advanced analytics and cloud computing, for economic and operational reasons. They extend a private cloud and moved from a structured dataset to a big data solution analysing internal and external data in real-time. They have become a truly data-driven organisation to help them make better decisions and become closer to customers.

Cloud computing software as a service allows hotels to avoid building their own IT infrastructure. In this case company uses the two versions of the tool for different segments and strategy. A private cloud dedicated to the core CRM systems as a data centre and public cloud services for operational activities that stimulates direct relationships with customers.
IHG adopted cloud-computing solutions for several motives. First of all, though the company didn't invest mainly for financial reason in the cloud, they benefit from economies of scale on the investment on the tool. Since cloud services can be purchased on an ‘on-demand’ basis, hotels can avoid upfront investment in hardware as well as associated expenses, such as maintenance costs and the extra manpower needed to run an in-house system.
Secondly, investing in this tool enables IHG saving time. Indeed, the cloud offers the ability to update prices in real time across all of their hotels. Furthermore, the hotel doesn’t need to invest time in the deployment of the system. There is also no more time lost on technical problem of hardware.
Thirdly, contrary to in-house software system  which requires training for both maintenance and operating of the system. Technical aspects are handled by the supplier, that is why cloud PMS is an easy, flexible and intuitive tool to set up and use. Furthermore, it enables a quick access that will be increased with software for tablets and mobiles for example.
InterContinental Group is investing in this tool, also planning to extend its private cloud, a real new generation data centre. By using two big virtualized data centres, the company faces failures much better. Secondly, such solutions are able through distribution systems to response quickly to the needs of the clients. This mode of operation delivers much more data while being closer to the customer than classic data centers. Today they use up to 650 variables from different sources such as information about its hotels, as well as its competitors, guests, and other internal and external data.

The cloud represents especially a solution to better manage big data gathered by the company. Distribution systems on the cloud can help hotels manage the complexities of distribution through a single online dashboard. Indeed, IHG collects a huge amount of diversified data, which are analysed in real time. This improves considerably the analysis and comprehension of customers’ trends and needs. Thus, it increases the performance of revenue management and insures more reliable strategic decisions, creating a better experience for their guests.

To conclude, investing in cloud-based management software revolutionizes IHG businesses, especially for revenue management solutions. Despite benefits driven by cloud-based systems, there are still some scepticism regarding connectivity and security issues.

However, capitalizing on this trend attract a clientele oriented to new technology, likely to enlarge and become more and more crucial to satisfy. Finally, in the precedent comment, we were wondering if such technologies could affect relationships between employees and customers. Yet, it appears that cloud based systems enable hotels saving time on operating activities, winning effectiveness. As a result hotel staff can focus more on their core activity: looking after their guests.

Hotel meta-search is the future for bookings

Tourists are becoming more and more demanding regarding their travel bookings. Indeed, they need to easily have access to a sufficient database and they need to compare prices. However, the only way for internet users to do it was to find themselves their own resources through the search engine they used.
Recently a “new” tool has been used to make easier the booking process for tourists. This tool is known as meta-search engine.

What is a meta-search engine?

A meta-search engine is a tool that enables the Internet users to ask for one criteria and access several search engines’ databases simultaneously.

Is it a new tool?

Absolutely not. Mamma.com was the first meta-search engine created by Herman Tumurcuoglu in Quebec and was commercialized in 1996.
But as many tools for tourism it took time for marketers and companies to understand the potential benefits. As a result, it is only since a few years that meta-search engines are used for tourism destinations.

What are the benefits?

This engine enables consumers to access a more accurate database for their research. They do not have to look for different websites in order to find the best price. The meta-search engine will have already gather the prices for different booking websites.

For hotel companies the meta-search engines can be considered as a new distribution partner. Indeed, once the customer is given the best possible information, the decision making process is fasten. The next step for the customer is the payment, which means the monetization of the booking process.

What are the trends and well-known actors?

Google launched in the end 2013 a new meta-search capability within Google Maps that enables consumers to get flight prices while looking for different routes. This is only the first step of a broader meta-search process. They will try to gather hotel information for the next step.

TripAdvisor gave its business an edge in hotel meta-search. While looking for a hotel on TripAdvisor, the customer is now given a price comparison sometimes between more than 10 booking websites! What does it mean? As we have said previously, it means that the customer does not have to lose time looking through 10 different websites – 5 of which he or she has never heard about – and feels like he or she has the most accurate information. Thus all the distribution channel is simplified and the monetization is accelerated.

Translation in tourism

Translation is a new challenge for tourism professionals. Everything on the internet has to be translated in all languages possible to reach all the different markets.

The Massive translation of website is a new challenge for hoteliers, especially during the high season and also low season. A new contract was made by ACCOR Group to promote the devices and configure an easy access to customer, thanks to Vivek Badrinath. This former innovative marketer for Orange is now employed by ACCOR Group to enlarge a new vision for the future of the tourism bookings: mobile phones should contribute until 30% of the total sales made on the internet (including different types of devices: tablets, mobile phones, PCs, etc…). Focused on the development of applications, this new strategy of tapping different segment of the tourism market will open new frontier of promoting a destination and having all the information linked to what the customer need in all languages.

Major players involved in the tourism industries, and especially those that are taking more parts of the markets: OTAs “Online Travel Agencies” are becoming the best intermediary on the web to promote accommodation sites. The example of Booking.com shows the relevancy of web agencies to promote hotels’ sites, “more than 425,000 accommodations sold across 25 different” devices.  Nowadays, hoteliers have to be present on the web and across all countries to tackle all markets interested into one or another destination. Moreover, the translation process is a stating point that needs to be over evaluated to boost hotels ‘sales and attractiveness thanks to devices used.

To answer all those translation problems, new software has been made for the hospitality and tourism industry but more than that for all kind of international businesses.
Translate your world International or TYWI is a software able to translate in 78 different languages.

For managers and staff in hotels for example it would be so much easier to welcome customers from the entire world and make them feel safer and happier. For international businesses it will also help expand and make new partners. For exhibitions and fairs the translations will make things easier for everyone. Communication will be positively increased.
Big companies are already using it like Coca Cola, NASA and many others. It allows so many possibilities for professionals.
It is available on all devices and is a partner with Google, Microsoft, Apple and all big actors in the sector lf automatics.

To conclude, translation is a challenge for the tourism industry and technologies like TYWI will felicitate everything for businesses and for customers or travelers. Anyway will it be able to translate perfectly and let people have a feeling of being understood everywhere?

ITH Room Xperience

You always dreamed about the way the hotel of the future would look like? SerranoBrothers gave an answer with the ITH Room Xperience!

Indeed, the international design studio and the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) presented last year their prototype room at the Spanish tourism fair, Fitur. In collaboration with tech companies as Microsoft, Toshiba, PayTouch or Bang & Olufsen - to name just a few - SerranoBrothers designed an ultra connected and fully digitized hotel room. Walls, floors and mirrors are tactile and interactive: customers can change the look of the room by flicking a finger or navigating on a smartphone.

On those giant tablets, customers make appear their agenda, weather, maps, pictures of their family to feel like home or even space environment to make good dreams. It is also possible to blur the door of the bathroom, choose your outfit via an interactive mirror and finally pay with your fingerprint.

The hotel room possesses six different areas: hall, sleep, work, vanity, bathroom and spa.  The overall is designed in a futurist furniture environment, close to science fiction.
And because we are talking about a futuristic project, it also presents a sustainable development dimension: eco-designed furniture has been elaborated and energy saving initiatives have been made.

This showroom of technologies allows customers to live an out of the common and unique experience. The ITH developed this hotel experience for the realization of the YANA program: You Are Not Alone.  Indeed, being constantly connected, a customer even alone should feel less loneliness.
But don’t you think that so many technologies in a confined space make the atmosphere cold and unfriendly? Moreover, do the eye-shaped windows allow a better user-experience? It sounds more like a science fiction gadget making the ambiance creepy.
Technologies innovations are part of the hospitality industry - but are all of this psychologically bearable? Is it truly relevant and useful?

You can judge for yourself: download the app and take a look!
